Canary Wharf Muslim Association [WharfMA] presents:

with Ustadh Hafiz Abdullah Muhammad*

Date: Tuesday 28th June 2011
Time: 6pm - 9pm
Venue: Idea Store Canary Wharf, Churchill Place,
Canary Wharf, London E14 5RB

The 11th Chapter of the Qur’an is the second of six Surahs of
the Qur’an that is named after Prophets. The Surahs are Yunus
(10), Hud (11), Yusuf (12), Ibrahim (14), Muhammad (47) and
Nuh (71). The Chapter is named Prophet Hud, an ancient Arabian
Prophet sent to the tribe of ‘Aad, who is mentioned in this
Surah (v.50). The Prophet Hud is the first of many prophets
sent to the Arabian Peninsula. Others include prophets Salih,
Shu’ayb, Isma’il and Muhammad (peace be upon them all).

Surah Hud continues with the typical ‘punishment stories’
that was started in the previous chapter with stories of
Noah, Hud, Salih and Shua’yb being mentioned as examples
of prophets who were rejected by their people and were
destroyed. The story of Prophet Noah is scattered throughout
the Qur’an, including the 71st chapter, but this Surah is
unique in that it contains the longest narrative of Prophet
Noah in the Qur’an. In this narrative, there is reference
made to Noah’s unbelieving son who was drowned in the flood
and we are also told that the Ark rested on Mount Judi
which is said to be in Turkey.

In this session of the monthly Journey Through the
Qur’an series, we will examine the history, structure
and guidance provided in this Surah and their
contemporary relevance.
