with Ustadh Hafiz Abdullah Muhammad*

Date: Tuesday 17th July 2012
Time: 6pm - 8.30pm
Venue: Idea Store Canary Wharf, Churchill Place,

Surah Al-Noor is the 24th Chapter of the Quran and is named after the
famous verse Ayat al-Noor (Verse of the Light) which begins with “Allah
is the Light of the heavens and the earth” (24:35). This Surah was
revealed at Madinah after the Battle of the Trench in 6 AH on the
occasion of the slander (Ifk) made against the Prophet’s wife Aishah.
The Surah came not only to exonerate her of the false charges leveled
against her but also laid down a series of social regulations and
preventative measures for the betterment of society, including Hijab
and the punishment for adultery (Zina) and false imputation of
adultery (Qadhf).

In this session of the monthly Journey Through the
Qur’an series, we will examine the history, structure
and guidance provided in this Surah and its
contemporary relevance.
